Frequently Asked Questions

What are some things you can do to get ready to go back to the office?

  • Check your physical health. Commuting and being in the office all day will require some endurance that may or may not have been maintained at home.
  • Get reacquainted with all the essentials you need to get through the day to ensure you don’t forget anything.
  • Try on your work wardrobe to ensure it fits comfortably and if necessary purchase some new items.
  • Work on adjusting your sleep schedule to prep for your new morning routine.

What are some tips for adjusting to office life again?

  • You can set weekly meetings with your manager to make sure you are staying on top of responsibilities.
  • Limit any distractions by putting your phone on silent. You can also wear noise-cancelling headphones or temporarily move to a different area away from co-workers.
  • Get reacquainted with your co-workers by grabbing lunch or a coffee together. This can help foster better working relationships and help make new friends.

How can leaders encourage employees to return to the office?

Leaders should call out career benefits such as mentorship opportunities available when senior and junior level employees collaborate in person. To encourage socialization, leaders can offer incentives like free lunches, team building events or happy hours. Leaders should remember to show empathy by conveying that they understand why people want to stay at home before they acknowledge the benefits of coming back to the office. Safety and flexibility in the workplace should be emphasized as people transition back to the office and any new changes to policies or the office space should be openly communicated to put people at ease.

“The comeback is always stronger than the setback.”

— Catherine Plano
